Crossbite in children
It is a malocclusion or “poor bite,” implies that the teeth do not close “like a box”, that is, the teeth above the jaw. This malposition can occur on the upper and lower mouth or both, it must be solved as the
patient grows, if the patient waits till they are older, the solution can’t be solved with orthodontics but with surgery.
If not treated or controlled this malocclusion can cause:
- Crowding, the teeth won’t fit because they have less space in the mouth due to the fact that the maxilla is more compressed and in the future they may need orthodontics.
- Very serious problems in the joint that connects the jaw to the skull, TMJ (temporomandibular joint)
TMJ problems could involve headaches, muscle pain and pain in the joints, which are difficult to treat, cost and above all the wear of it produced in the joint can no longer be recovered.
With early diagnosis and simple treatment, there can be a better outcome for the future of the patient’s joints and oral care.
